CORRECTIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
The implementation framework provides for an Oversight Committee and subcommittees.
The role of the Oversight Committee is to oversee the work that is done to:
- Address the recommendations in the Corrections Action Plan relating to the Whitehorse Correctional Centre. The WCC Building Advisory Committee has been established to do this work.
- Address the recommendations in the Corrections Action Plan for new approaches to programs and services. The Programs and Services Advisory Committee, co-chaired by Yukon government and CYFN, is providing advice on this aspect of correctional redevelopment.
- Address the recommendations in the Corrections Action Plan regarding legislative and administrative matters, including a review of the Yukon Corrections Act. The Legislation and Administrative Environment Advisory Committee is overseeing the public consultation on a new Yukon Corrections Act.
A number of subcommittees report to the Oversight Committee.
The Building Advisory Committee (BAC) members include Norma Davignon (Chair, Department of Justice), Rosemary Rowlands (Council of Yukon First Nations [CYFN]), Ray Santa (Kwanlin Dün First Nation [KDFN]), Ta'an Kwäch'än Council (representative to be determined), Glen Dahl (Whitehorse Correctional Centre), and Blaine Demchuk (Whitehorse Correctional Centre).
The Programs and Services Advisory Committee (PASAC) currently includes Robert Riches (Co-chair, Department of Justice), Rosemary Rowlands (Co-Chair, CYFN), Lori Duncan (CYFN), Carmen Gibbons (KDFN), Agnes Ball (Kaska Tribal Council), Deb Evensen (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Society of Yukon [FASSY]), Norman Drynock (Committee on Abuse in Residential Schools Society [CAIRS]), Larry Kwiat (John Howard Society/Blood Ties Four Directions), Debbie Parent (Yukon Learn), Cindy Chaisson (Elizabeth Fry Society), Marilyn Wolovick (Many Rivers Counselling Services), Barb McInerney (Kaushee's Place), Michelle Kolla (Skookum Jim Friendship Center), Capt.
